The Dreamcast Diaries: Shenmue 2

The Dreamcast diaries is a series in which I examine my catalogue of games that helped make SEGA’s opus the best console of all time.

My last entry into the series proved to be crazy popular, there was a buzz on the ‘Shenmue’ kickstarter page and in other corners of the internet, it was great to see people talk about the game that I loved with the same affection as I have for it!

Continuing on my journey there is really only one place to stop at next, the continuation of Ryo Hazuki’s (it is not a sequel!) quest for vengeance; ‘Shenmue 2’.

The time has come guys, the time for me to delve deep into my gaming history, the time to look at what is; in my opinion, the greatest console of all time. The SEGA Dreamcast.

I have recently dug out my Dreamcast and its game collection for my own and my stream viewers entertainment.

I will be running a retrospective series looking at what the Dreamcast means to me through its game library. Being as topical as ever though I’m starting with the daddy of all Dreamcast games, the one that has been recently resurrected on Kickstarter; a game that is always mentioned in “Best Ever” lists.

9/9/99 – the date that changed gaming forever. The birth of the Dreamcast and the birth of Generation 6!

This was when shit started getting real; and by real I mean casulties, this console war gave us our first fatality…poor SEGA ceased to be a hardware creator and became a machine for pumping out average titles!

As a SEGA kid this was a blow I thought i would never recover from, but the Dreamcast is one of the greatest consoles of all time. SEGA went out and left us with a wealth of gaming gold that will never be replicated…the gaming landscape was inexorably changed during this generation.

What classics are oft-forgotten I hear you scream at the top of your lungs… simmer down kids…i’m ’bout to lay down that knowledge.
