Backlog Blitz: September 2017

Well, this is more like it!

September was a great month for gaming; I finally got round to starting some of the Telltale games that have been clogging up my backlog since I bought their back catalogue after loving ‘The Walking Dead’ season 2.
I have taken a huge chunk out of my score (well, all the points accrued for buying more games) and things are beginning to look good for me; I only hope that it hasn’t happened too late in the year for me to be successful…

…October is usually a good month for me and gaming, I get out all my horror favourites and play through them for Hallowe’en and this year should be a doozie! I plan on finishing REVII (bought on release day for God’s sake), Dino Crisis (again), RE 0, The Evil Within, RE 4 and many, many more! I only hope that my ambition doesn’t outweigh my desire (or time).

Anyway now that my optimistic intro is done with, here’s a recap of my backlog blitz rules:

• I must complete 52 games in 2017

• The games can be ones that I have previously started or have previously completed and they can be on any platform

• Episodic games count as one game per episode

• Lengthy DLC (ie Blood and Wine) count as a game

• Every time I complete a game I score +1

• Every time I buy a game I score -2

• By the end of the year I must finish with a positive score or I have failed the Backlog Blitz

Yearly score (so far) = -22

Games Bought: Wolfenstein, The Wolf Among Us and Resident Evil 0 HD

Games Completed: The Wolf Among Us Episodes 1 & 2, The Walking Dead Episodes 1, 2, 3 & 4

Once again Sony got me with their amazing discounts on good games, this month I cracked and bought Wolfenstein for £4.50, TWAU on VITA for £3.79 and RE0HD for less than £7 – amazing titles for £15 plus change! Stop it Sony, it’s costing me a bloody fortune (don’t stop).

The good news is that I actually completed enough games to completely negate the decline into higher negatives this month, completing a grand total of 6 games! That’s better than the previous three or four months combined; hell yeah I’m killed it in September.

Quality wise, it was a bit of a mixed bag to be honest; ‘Game of Thrones’ swings from being brilliant to boring whilst TWAU is as good as everyone told me it was – the story is thrillingly told and I am desperate to see how it pans out (I stopped playing both these so I could write the reviews for each individual episode). Expect to see those reviews start to roll out next week.

On top of these games I revisited a couple of crackers from a few years ago, Pix The Cat has been getting hammered recently, I’m playing through the laboratory mode and I can tell you, it gets extremely difficult but it retains its fun. I have also been playing a significant amount of Tomb Raider (I finished that last night in fact; October has started well) as well as some Stardew Valley (which I don’t think has a traditional “end”).

Wolfenstein remains installed but unstarted as I am still playing my way through ‘The Old Blood’ for the second time (it is great) whilst RE0HD was bought with Frightfest in mind (I may have an announcement on that very topic; let me mull on it for the weekend) …

Overall I’m extremely happy with how September went and I now have high hopes for October and the horror game marathon that will surely come with it. I think I may just be able to salvage this challenge…

…so far this year I’ve only completed 11 games, completing 52 is out of the question at this late stage; but it is not too late to aim for a positive score; especially now that the Mrs Luvva annual game embargo is about to begin which will stop me plunging further into the whole at the very least…

…fingers crossed!
