Well, well, well. Haven’t Sony upped their game with their PlayStation Plus offerings?
This is a fantastic month for PlayStation 4 owners (I’ve said this repeatedly this year) – 2017 has been a brilliant year to be a PlayStation player and it shows no signs of slowing down either!
Sony aren’t stupid, they know that gamers will be hankering for some horror games in October (don’t forget our frightfest starts soon) and they have delivered some of the best horror games ever made with Plus!
Let’s get to the games!
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain: Yes, the biggest game that Kojima ever made is available for free come Tuesday! This is a fantastic offering from Sony and the biggest PS4 game they have ever had on Plus; if this doesn’t make the people calling for “more AAA games” every month shut up, then nothing well!
MGSV is an open world Stealth game that was universally lauded on release and well beyond! I am not a huge MGS (the PSOne game was brilliant though) but I for sure will be downloading this and playing the hell out of it!
The Amnesia Collection: Amnesia is often cited as the reason the Survival Horror genre rose from the dead and to an extent this is a correct assumption. Amnesia found huge success thanks to Youtubers like Markiplier and Pewdiepie playing them and pretending to be terrified in childish ways…
…except the first game is incredible and genuinely terrifying for the majority of its playtime; A Machine for Pigs is a good game, and Justine is roughly the same quality. Overall though what we have here is three horror games that define a generation and are all worth playing even if there are diminishing returns in quality! An unbelievable deal for free!
Bonus Games: RIGs and That’s You!
Monster Jam Battlegrounds: Is a bang average Monster Truck simulator that is more than just a little reminiscent of Trials HD; it’s not bad at all, it’s just painfully average game that has nothing to really recommend here.
Hustle Kings: Hustle Kings is actually a damn good pool game that has no bells and whistles in terms of extras, it simply lets you play pool. It’s old now (and has been surpassed by its PS4 sequel) but it has great physics and is infinitely playable! Definitely worth a wee download!
Hue: Is an interest puzzle-platformer that makes use of colours and how they change our perception of the world. It is light on the puzzles and platforming and it reminds me of Limbo – which is a good thing indeed. It received mixed reviews and it seems to be a bit of a marmite game; but it’s free now and crossplay, so what have you really got to lose?
Sky Force Anniversary: Is a real throwback to the vertical shooter that had its hayday in the PSOne era and suddenly died in the PS2 era. Sky Force is a bloody good one too! Yes it has issues, but they are soon forgotten as soon as you start playing, it’s an exciting and addictive game that is well worth your time and (no) money! Plus Matt Cundy liked it!
