After shouting from the rooftops about their “strong Switch sales” Nintendo have finally told us their numbers. And they are very strong indeed!
In North America, in March alone, they sold 906,000 consoles and 1.3million copies of ‘Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ (925,000 sold on Switch).
These are hugely impressive numbers – especially when you consider that the attach rate of Zelda is over 100%! As far as I’m aware that stat is unheard of, no wonder Nintendo have been happy as Larry!
Let’s not get carried away though – while these numbers are certainly strong they are also a poor indicator of a consoles long-term success. Remember that the Dreamcast once sold 225,000 consoles in a day and we all know how that ended.
Nintendo’s challenge is now ensuring that they can get people to continue buying their console and that requires games; first and third-party games!
Their end of year figures are certainly going to be interesting! Is this Nintendo’s big comeback?
