My Christmas Games 2016

Every year I make sure that I have kept a game or two to play through my two weeks off over Christmas – every year I do the same thing, buy too many games and struggle to fit them all into my schedule then eventually get round to them over the holidays.

This year is absolutely no different and I have a few games that I am going to be playing – before I begin with my list though, it is important to add that I have asked MrsLuvva for ‘Watch_Dogs 2’ and as we speak there is a very “blu ray” shaped present under the tree; so I’m not going to be adding that to the list, because it could very well be something that’s not ‘Watch_dogs’!

No, the purpose of this post is to tell you the games I’m going to tackle of my backlog and have a bloody great Christmas of gaming!

Without further ado, here’s the games that will be taking up my Christmas holiday.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity

acu-coverIt’s just not Christmas without Assassin’s Creed!
I bought this way back in January for less than the price of a Chip and burger in my local takeaway and it ended up being put on the back burner because the download was so massive and my hard-drive was very, very full! I downloaded it way back in September, but as I’m sure everyone has noticed, I’ve been one busy beaver and as a result I was only able to begin playing it properly a week ago and I am enjoying it immensely!

It has fixed a lot of issues I had with AC since 3; primarily the assassinations are now bloody brilliant (but tough) and they can be approached in a stealth manner; right now I am on the third one and finding it challenging but really good fun! I am looking forward to seeing how the story of Arno ends and that (hopefully) will be Christmas night or boxing morning – then I can move onto my next backlog title.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Rise-of-the-Tomb-Raider-PS4-packshot.jpgAnother Christmas, another ‘Tomb Raider’.

This is a game that I purchased when it was on the ’12 days of Christmas’ promotion on PSN and it is one that I am dying to play. I fully intend on starting with the VR mode and experiencing Croft manor in a new and exciting way (I really hope it doesn’t make me sick, like some reports have stated it will!). Then I’m going to sink my teeth into the campaign which had all the critics frothing at the mouth and rating incredibly highly – I hope it’s as good as everyone says it is! Most of all though – I hope that it is better than ‘Uncharted 4’ which was very good, but it left me cold and a little disappointed.

I don’t know how long it’ll take me to beat this one, and for that reason aside from ‘Watch_Dogs 2’ I won’t be playing another real single player experience.

RIGS

RIGS Cover.jpgRIGS is a brilliant game! It is truly an excellent eSport title that is competitive as all hell! When the two teams are perfectly balanced (which is very often because there is not a massive player base) there is an ebb and flow to the matches that other games either can’t match or struggle to.

It’s also a game that rewards skill and risk taking which is something that should not be underestimated in modern times. The reason I’ll be playing this over the holiday is because I’m expecting an influx of new players and that should make it easier to find a game and; if I’m honest, win those games!

TO CHRISTMAS NEWBIES!

Overwatch

TF2 Cover.jpgThis game is incredible. I don’t think I really have to explain why I’m playing it over Christmas. The seasonal event is unbelievable as well, the snowball fight mode in particular is incredibly tense and addictive – I look forward to playing more of this over the next two weeks and I’ll miss this event when it goes.

Titanfall 2

Another incredible shooter! This has been criminally overlooked by the masses and that is an absolute crime – not only does it have one of the best multiplayer modes of the year, but it has the best FPS campaign since ‘Modern Warfare’! ‘Titanfall 2’ is a game that deserves more love and more players and I hope that Christmas sees an influx of both like RIGS will!

I’ll put it this way; I’m ready for Titanfall!

What games will be taking up your downtime over the next few weeks?

  1. ROTTR was great, but I found it a bit over long. Then again, I did aft about with the side quests for quite a while at the start. The only VR game that interests me really is RIGS, so I’m glad you’re having fun with it.
